the NXT accu pack (old) was about 20EUR (edit: 30$) and several 9V-12V power supplies I already had.

Well, for that price I may as well look into it. Where did you find the NXT LiPo pack?

Ok, will have to bounce over to eBay and see what is on right now. And ~$30 US is still a great deal, even if the battery is slightly used up/run down. I'm afraid I've caused the topic to go, well, off topic :P. Sorry about that.

You know, something? I would love for the 3rd generation Mindstorms intelligence brick to have a female Power Functions connector instead of a built in battery compartment. You could build smaller bots and Lego could reduce the different types of batteries they are making.

Nice idea. You would be able to power it from a power supply, or any 9v (ish) battery pack. You could use custom LiPo configurations, or even RC style packs.

However, I think lego wants to keep things simple. Perhaps it would be good if they made a AA holder (with a PF connector) that could be removed to save space when using an external source.

That's not what he meant. That conversion cable is to convert from NXT style connectors to PF, to (for example) run PF motors directly on the NXT motor ports.

Well I figured that's how they are injecting power into the LEGO Energy Meter, they could do the same with the future Mindstorms brick. I was telling my wife that my ideal brick would be half as long with all of the connectors on one end, and a laptop style display with simple keypad where the keyboard would be. Imagine: shave the battery box off the NXT, then fold it in half. You could build much smaller bots with something like that. It would be similar in size to the PF AA battery box.

Wow I've gone way off topic...sorry!
