NXT brick problem
NXT brick problem
Hi,
I have the Lego Mindstorms NXT 1 and I hadn't used it for a while and when I turned the NXT brick on it started to make a clicking noise, i know it has to do with the firmware and i tried to download the firmware from my pc using robotC but the computer couldn't find the nxt brick. Today when I turned my nxt brick on nothing hapens not even the clicking noise. I've tried pushing the reset button on the backside of the nxt in the upper left hole but nothing happened. What can I do? please someone help me.
Thanks

Re: NXT brick problem
Have you tried new batteries? If not fit them and then reset the NXT (hold the reset button down for 10 seconds or so), then re-flash the firmware...
Re: NXT brick problem
You need to read this guide before you do anything else - https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/mind ... p?f=3&t=49
It's a common problem and, since you have not used your brick for a while, it might just need no more than an update to the latest NXT driver on your computer.
Even if it is a firmware problem, you can update that through the Bricx Command Center even though it says that it it can't find your brick.

Re: NXT brick problem
This is almost definitely not the issue, but are you running any "weird" programs? I know that I have crashed my NXT zillions of times from errors (the kind that just freezes the NXT until you restart it). When that happens, it freezes the display, clicks softly, and does not respond to the buttons. I just have to pull out a battery and reinsert it. The FW and everything is still fine, and nothing bad seems to have happened.
FYI, Xander just brought it to my attention, that pressing the reset button briefly will only restart it (same as removing and reinserting the battery). Pressing for about 5 seconds will reset it though (clear everything).

Re: NXT brick problem
I'm using RobotC to download the firmware and program my robot. So I should reset my nxt?

Re: NXT brick problem
When you download the FW, it first resets the NXT. You could try using the BCC tool to download the FW, but I don't know that it would make any difference.
I haven't used the ROBOTC FW, so I don't know how stable it is.

Re: NXT brick problem
You never did answer the question about the batteries. Did you try replacing the batteries with fresh ones and then reflashing the brick with the latest ROBOTC firmware that came with the ROBOTC program? Which version of ROBOTC are you using?

I had new batteries, I had just bought them to download the firmware. I'm using RobotC 2.02(7.97) free trial.
