Motor and Sensor ports dead after recharging

Post by tabbycatrobots »

I have a fairly simple line following NXT robot, programmed in NXC. It has the newer white battery. I've had it for
over a year, running the same program, as I use it for school demos. I ran it; all was okay; I put it on charge for
several hours. I put it on the test track, turned it on, and got the standard ta ta ta da. I clicked through to the
program and clicked run. I noticed the sensor lights did not come on, and no motor started. I tried several times.
Then I hooked it up to the PC, downloaded the program, and tried again same thing; no luck. I took an NXT from
another robot, downloaded the program, hooked up the motors and sensors, and it ran. So the sensors and motors
are okay. It as if recharging burned out something in all the motor and sensor ports on the first NXT. Has anyone
seen a similar problem. Is there any easy cure. Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds odd have you tried swapping the batteries between the two NXTs? Would be safer to take the battery from the known good NXT and try that in the "bad" NXT. If the "bad" NXT now works look likes a fault with the battery...

I haven't tried swapping rechargeable batteries, but I did try the failing NXT with 6 new AA batteries and
see the same motor and sensor port failure.

Does not sound good. I've not heard of failures like that before. Perhaps try contacting Lego support?

Is there a sort of acrid, sour smell coming from the NXT? If there is, you may have some fried components inside.
