Where/how to get new EV3 connection cables?

Post by peano58 »

Hello,
I recently got the Lego Mindstorms EV3. For my current project it would be handy for me to have two more 50 cm connection cables, instead of the single one of the starter set. Are the cables a common standard, which I can find in electronic shops? Or do I have to buy the offical Lego cables? Would the NXT cables work?

Thanks in advance :)

I think peano meant the "telephone" cable. Which is not really a common standard unfortunately.

You can buy a regular telephone cable, and modify it. There are some tutorials about how to do it.

The other option is buying them from LEGO or Dexter Industries or any of the other 3rd party sensor makers.

Mindsensors provide more flexible versions http://www.mindsensors.com/index.php?mo ... PAGE_id=66

Or you can make your own using the connectors they supply or by modifying standard ones http://www.philohome.com/nxtcables/nxtcable.htm

The crimping tool needed is created from a standard unit selling cheaply on ebay and easily modified (even I did it).

Getting a crimping tool and connectors means that you can buy standard cable at low cost (black or white, whichever you prefer) and make them any length you want.
