Screen flickered then died.

Post by h-g-t »

Screen has packed up although the brick seems to be working OK.

Seen videos of repairs by re-soldering a couple of surface mount caps and by pressing down on the ribbon cable to improve contact.

Has anyone tried doing this?

I've had little success doing so. When I use my NXT with the bad screen, I usually use a PC based virtual screen (BCC and ROBOTC have it).

Oh, and as of a year or so ago, TLG seemed to be replacing NXTs with broken screens for free (even if they were more than a year old).

Tried LEGO for a repair and was referred to LEGO Education Europe, who said -

"The NXT products come with 2 year warranty.
If I can trace that you have placed the order with us in that time then we can arrange for a replacement to be sent out to you free of charge.
Please provide me with approximate date of our order, full address for invoice and delivery and order number (if you can find it).
Otherwise, I am afraid we do not offer a repair service."

So it's out with the soldering iron (and/ or the conductive glue).

Thanks Aswin, that is what I am trying to get the courage to do!

I did it three times already. Two times I succeeded, once I was without luck. But even then things did not get worse.
Do not forget to place the soft rubber button (from the batterybox) back while assembling.

Thanks.

What does the rubber button in the battery box do?

It's for sensing if you are using a battery pack, rather than AAs.

Thanks Matt.

Been looking around and surprised that LEGO NXT & kits are costing a lot more than last year.

I assumed that the prospect of a revised NXT 'brick' would have driven the prices down.
