Re: LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Announced
Yeah the PF servo was the closest thing yet to a proper servo, but it uses PWM duty cycle to choose position, should be easy enough to run the PF-S with the EV3. I think what you are interpreting as a servo is essentially similar to the NXT servos with one exception, NXT servos have their brains in the NXT brick, typical servos have the brain in the servo. Given the current PF / NXT protocols a typical servo is possible, but likely not realistic from TLG (my 2 cents)

Re: LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Announced
I like to have control if I want it, so having the brains in the NXT or EV3 is ideal, but I'd really like absolute position sensing.

Re: LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Announced
At first, they were saying it would come out in summer, but it looks like the release date has gotten pushed back. I suppose now it's more consistent with the NXT which was first released in the Fall.

Re: LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Announced
Presumably it is being released just before Xmas to catch the seasonal market.
I like some of the improved features but am concerned at the loss of NXC for programming.
Does anyone have an idea whether the new NXT-G will be just the same as the current version or text-based?

Re: LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Announced
AFAIK there won't be a new "NXT-G" -
but there surely will be a new grafical programming environment, just for beginners, again based on a new Labview version, targetting the new operating system and firmware, and it will also be downwards-compatible to the old NXT firmware.
As far as NXC already provides standard C-syntax there won't be much difference to real ANSI C, I personally don't worry about that, but if we got a real ANSI C compiler then we hopefully might have many additional standard C features on top. It will probably more concern the API functions than the syntax of basic C commands, but API functions can be simply #included by a header file.

Well, at least they have revamped the editor!
I found NXT-G did everything I wanted, but editing it was a real pita.
Think I might try a version of C (if it is available) for compatibility with my existing program, otherwise I have to learn LEJOS.

The new programming environment is a massive improvement over the old one. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised
