NXT successor?

Post by pepijndevos »

We had the Scout, Cybermaster, RCX, and according to Wikipedia, even older sets. Now we have the NXT, which was released in 2006, also according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Mindstorms

I can only wonder what will be nxt.

Sometimes I think the might not be a next, and Mindstorms is just going to be replaced with another movie theme, but lets hope not.

I wonder if the next Mindstorms set will contain a processor. IMO, another viable option would be to have just a sensor/actuator board for smartphones.

I do hope it'll have the same protocols and ports, but a more sane motor design. Maybe more integrated into the PF line?

we have a saying in Germany.
It goes: "Der Mensch denkt, Gott lenkt".
In English, probably: "Man proposes, God disposes".

so we may discuss and think and speculate about anything, but God " LE G O Deveolpment And Merchandising" does wat He wants anyway. ;)

This has been discussed many times. I don't think lego will drop the Mindstorms line, and with the popularity of RCX and NXT, I'd be surprised if they didn't make another Mindstorms brick. Based on the previous time-frames, I'd say the next version of Mindstorms is due within 1 to 3 years.

Don't forget that Mindstorms may not be LEGO's best selling line (Ninjago and Technoc is much bigger, especially in Europe) but it's their technology showcase. I doubt very much it is going anywhere.

I'm not quite sure how to interpret this.

Is it your view that Lego won't abandon the Mindstorms line and will continue to develop and enhance it? (i.e. it's not going away)

or

Mindstorms has reached the end of the line, there is not enough in it for Lego to invest any more in it?

By going anywhere I meant that it is here to stay, in other words, it will not go away :)

How about a very simple math progression:

RCX released in 1999
NXT released in 2006
Version 3 released in ????

I, personally, have always had a similar theory to what Steve just suggested. The RCX came out in 1998, and since the NXT came out in 2006, then it will maybe be in 2014 until the next MINDSTORMS comes out. Hehe, I forgot. Who was it that proposed the idea of calling the next one the FTR? Wow, time flys, only two years to go if our assumptions are correct.

Doesn't seem like a valid method if you ask me...

 Well, modern electronics haven't been around for much more than a century, so we don't know how the whole thing might work in a milenium. But it may still be a valid theory for the next few decades. :)
