My understanding is that the Fantom drivers are known to not work with Lion but that LEGO and NI are working on an update to fix that problem. Without the Fantom drivers it is hard to use the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT software on Lion at this point. The installer may also have compatibility issues that need to be sorted out.

This is to be expected when new operating systems are released so please be patient as fixes and updates are prepared and tested before they are released for us to use.

How long do you think it may take till we get an update?

Is it possible to use NXT software on a virtual Windows XP running on Mac OS X Lion?

According to my source in LEGO, you need to install NXT-G 2.0 from the mpkg file, not the installer. He has the retail version of NXT-G running fine on a 64 bit OSX Lion installation. Apparently there are issues with the Education version, which they hope to have fixed by the end of the month. If you have the retail version, I suggest you try installing it from the mpkg file.

If that doesn't work, let me know.

It is version 2.0 retail, right? Not 1.0 or 1.1?

I've gotten it installed, but it runs only in 32-bit mode. I have to reboot my Mac holding down the "2" and "3" keys, which brings it up as a 32-bit OS. Then the Mindstorms software V2.0 seems to run OK.

BUT I AM HAVING THE MOST VEXING PROBLEM WITH THE UI...

For some reason my son found himself with a small program - one of his first - stuck on the screen in a weird mode. The pan window shows the outline of a large outline-mode drawing, matching the code. But it's jammed against the left-hand side of that window and we cannot figure out how to scroll back to the far-left side of the screen to see the blocks in the program. It will scroll much farther to the right - several screens' worth. But not to the left, where all the blocks are hidden. All we can see is the right-hand edge of the outermost switch block.

Feels pretty buggy. I am beyond frustrated - can anybody suggest a solution?

hi thomas,

sorry, I can't answer your question.

but I would like to tell you I have found out that the most convenient way of working with mindstorms on mac is running a windows xp instance on https://www.virtualbox.org.

NXT-G is naturally buggy. It would help if you could post a screenshot of the problem your having. Otherwise, rebuild the program and try that.
