Thanks for the suggestions, but I forgot to say that in Lab we found those wheels =)
I cut them and now I only have to join them with the central part... I hope it will work!

Re: Hi everyone!
I saw a few of them, really interesting! =) Thanks to one video, we had the idea of building a sort of gripper using four half-wheels, brilliant!

Re: Gripper using an engine and four half-wheels
Hi again guys! The sacrificial-wheels I bought are just arrived =) There are some problems: - These wheels are empty inside --> How can I fill them? - I don't know what kind of glue I must use - Can I just cut the tire without losing efficiency? - Would cause problems "cutting" also the ha...

Re: Crawler tracks
The track needs to touch the hub (wheel) for at least a quarter of the hub - look at this picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tracks_%28diagram%29.png Here, 1 and 4 would be good places to attach the motor, but 5 and 6 would be bad choices, because there is too little contact between hub and...

Re: Crawler tracks
The circles are wheel hubs. Personally, I wouldn't power all three hubs. As long as one hub is turning the track, two or three won't make it turn "more", and adding gearing to connect all three may add friction, which would not be good. Yes, this make sense, thank you! We'll try this, I t...

Re: Crawler tracks
If the mat provides too much grip, the tracks have trouble turning the robot on the spot. There is too much friction and you end up either running the track off the cogs or, worse, snapping them. I've seen it happen. But, as I said, the surface will be smooth and I think the friction won't be I pro...

Re: Crawler tracks
Tracks often do introduce more friction than wheels, but are often easier to design for. With tracks, you can easily make a skid-steer, and all motor power can go to driving the tracks (you don't need to waste resources for a steering motor). Wheels often have a large diameter, making them harder t...

Re: Gripper using an engine and four half-wheels
Wonderful! Thank you very much, all the information and the links are really useful! I'll keep you up to date about our work (maybe we'll share some photos of our work)!
Thank you very much again to all! =)

Re: Gripper using an engine and four half-wheels
I hope I understand you correctly. If you have a worm gear and a normal gear, like this: IMAGE then you can drive the worm gear to move the normal gear, but you cannot drive the normal gear to move the worm gear; i.e. you can only reduce the speed. Yes it's something like this (with Lego, obviously...

Crawler tracks
(Is it written correctly? ) Hi again, I need some explanations about the crawlers. As my teacher said, they're absolutely better than normal wheels in moving on an inclined plane, but there are some things I am not certain about. We (again, I and my team) build it but sometimes they creak and...
