That's a fairly good question, to be quite honest.
I've heard mixed reports, but most of the statements of it coming out in Summer that I've heard were earlier on. And more recently I've been hearing Fall, so I'm going to bet that it was originally set to come out in Summer, but then got pushed to Fall. I could be wrong though. And I may also just be saying this because I want to make myself believe that I have more time to finish up with my NXT stuff I have going on before the EV3 comes out.

A sophistical rhetorician, inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity, and gifted with an egotistical imagination that can at all times command an interminable and inconsistent series of arguments to malign an opponent and to glorify himself.
According to LEGO it is scheduled for release in autumn.

Well, it’s been autumn here now for a month or over 10 days (depending on whether you go by the ‘official’ or equinox start date) and not an EV3 to be seen anywhere.
Seriously though, I really hope it hits the shelves before 12 October and that there is good availability so I can buy it while still on my holiday in the US. That way I don’t end up having to get it here in NZ at the additional 50 -75% price premium that we seem to get burdened with in this part of the world.
More like hemispheres. Europe and Asia are on the opposite side of the world (from the USA), and their seasons are in line with the USA. However, people in the southern hemisphere have their seasons reversed. Of course because of the geographical layout of the earth, it isn't quite that cut and dry.
