I have been using the NXT motors for their different form factor. One curious note is they Auto ID.

I am preparing to build some prototype sensors for the EV3 Brick. The NXT pin out was as follows; pin 1 ANALOG interface, +9V white, pin 2 GND black, pin 3 GND red, pin 4 +4.3V green, pin 5 I2C (SCL) RS-485 B yellow, pin 6 I2C (SDA) RS-485 A blue. Evaluation software has been downloaded for the iNEMO and the available STEVAL-MKI108V2L3GD20 and LSM303DLHC 9 axis module for a standard DIL24 socket which was also purchased.

The iNEMO is still in Beta, but they claim it is immune to magnetic error and has 4 different software packages.

This Microinfinity IMU/Gyro has both USB and RS-232 interfaces, maybe it can be interfaced to the EV3 Brick.
