Environment selection

Post by knotian »

Yes, I know this question has been asked before, but not recently.
I am a retired programmer/analyst with some c and basic experience. (I mainly worked in Cobol and Powerbuilder)
I am going to be using the EV3 and Technic in the modeling of machines, with heavy reliance on sensors. Models will be run from the pc or downloaded, not using bluetooth or wi-fi.
The labview approach does not interest me and I have looked and tried Small Basic.
Before I get too far I'd like to set up an environment that will, hopefully :D , continue to be useful over the next revisions to EV3.
What is the most used/accepted software for development?
What about Bricxxc?
Any other suggestions?

Thanx,
Ed
