8wd cake platform

This is probably one of my most useless creations:

It makes cakes spin round and round when placed on top of it. Probably other stuff too, but it was specially designed for cakes.
It is fully portable with its internal battery box and with its 8 powered wheels it will keep spinning no matter how slippery your flat table is.

I think this is actually the first time I used a base which does not contain right angles:

Well, it was a fun one-day project and while I'm not quite satisfied with it it was fun nevertheless.

I feel like recording a video, any suggestions for spinning objects?

If you've ever played Portal, then you'd know there is no cake. All the cake is a lie. Don't you know that GLaDOS has a worldwide cake simulator? She took it all for herself and now she's messin' with our brains, man! Simulated taste, texture, and fullness. We aren't eating anything!

It is not that strong, I don't think much more than 1 kg would go well. I did a poor job on the gears connecting the 4 directly powered wheels and instead of fixing it properly, I was lazy and just reinforced it... I have some photos of the gearing, I will try to post them soon as you can't quite see it in those I already provided.

I don't have a cat though, nor do I think I could make it stay on it... I could try to fold an origami one through.

I must admit you were ambitious to drive all eight wheels, I think I would have just powered two, or maybe four. Have you seen the bearings created with the Hailfire wheel?

Powering just 2 or 4 wheels would have been boring so I wanted to avoid that if possible. ; )
I think it would work quite well if I just improved the gearing in the middle. The problem is that I couldn't get the wheels centered, so the axle from the wheel on the other side doesn't match up. I have an idea to a solution which should work better, so I might try out that out.

I have seen this use of the Hailfire wheel but I didn't think of it, most likely because I don't have any to use anyway... Those wheels are great, I really wish I had a couple of them, there have been so many great uses of them.

I'd say the 2x4 Lego Brick is just about the most popular of all Legos (at least as a symbol). How about placing one on top, spinning it, and calling it "The solution to a common whirled piece"
