BricXCC: Compile/Download Failed. Compile failure.

Have installed latest version of BricXCC software and worked all evening to get my new computer (MS Windows 8) to communicate with the NXT Brick. Downloaded Fantom and new Firmware. Communication successful. However, when I try to compile (and download/run) even the simplest demo programs I get a pop up window spelling "Compile/Download Failed. Compile failure". There si no obvious reason why this should happen from what I have read tonight. Can someone give me a piece of advice/tip to solve the problem?
