NXT motors Auto ID with EV3

I have been using the NXT motors for their different form factor. One curious note is they Auto ID.

The EV3 motors are just a motor with an encoder (like the NXT motors), so there is no uC etc. The EV3 medium motor uses slightly different encoder output voltages so that the EV3 can tell the difference between it and the large motor. The NXT motors are electronically identical (or almost) to the EV3 large motors, so the EV3 can't tell the difference.
