no sound when memory close to full?

Hi friends,
I use Mindstorms in the classroom, so various kids will download to the NXT's and they'll get pretty full. Something I've seen once or twice is that the downloaded program will run fine, except without making any of the programmed sounds... until I clear the NXT of all programs and download fresh. Anyone seen this? Any solutions?

It seems likely that if that is what is happening then there was enough memory for the main program to be downloaded, but then once that has been downloaded there is not enough space left for the sound files. If those sound files aren't on the brick you will get no sound played.

I think that NXT-G automatically loads any new sounds that a program needs when it loads a program. If the missing sounds are new sounds that weren't already in memory, then it could be that there wasn't enough memory left to load them after loading the program. The program would run fine without the sounds. Clearing out the memory would make enough room to load the sounds and the program the next time.
