Wierd USB Issues

Hi All,

One of my NXT's is behaving strangely. When I plug in the USB Cable, Win7 recognises it and I can 'Upload Any Firmware' (RobotC, LeJos & RobotC) from Samba Mode, but I can't upload any software, data, view diagnostics, etc....

My other three NXT's behave as they should when connected via USB.

Any ideas would be appreciated?

So, you're saying it's only working in SAMBA (FW download mode)? Did you try downloading and using John's enhanced FW? It sounds like a computer driver issue.

Hi Matt,

Yes, only in Samba Mode. I normally use enhanced firmware. Currently using v131. Same problem occurs LEGO's V1.29.rfw and latest RobotC: NXT_0912.rfw. Even LeJOS VM fails.

If a driver issue, I'd expect the same symptoms with all 4x NXT's. I have swapped back and forth with LEGO's and RobotC's USB drivers with no result.

So, you're saying you can download FW, and manually go through the menu, but you can't download programs, use a virtual screen, NeXTExplorer...?

Yes. Firmware only works on USB Connection. The NXT has to manually put into SAMBA mode...

Did you try removing the devices (even the hidden ones) related to this NXT from the device manager?

Xander,

Where in the device manager do you find devices related to the NXT? And where are the hidden ones?

Thanks.

John

There is a category named "LEGO Devices". Normally it will only show up if an NXT is connected.

To view all devices, even ones that aren't currently connected (but have been installed in the past), follow these steps:

1: Open a command prompt as Administrator
2: Type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1", followed by Enter
3: Type "start devmgmt.msc", followed by Enter
4: In the "View" menu, click "Show hidden devices"
5: Uncollapse the "LEGO Devices" branch

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay getting back. My No.1 son has somehow devoured (YouYubed) my 25G's of Data transfer for the month.

I did find the source of the problem though. A couple of weeks ago I was checking out [ur=http://www.kleekbots.coml]KleetBots[/url] which install a USB Driver and associated with this particular NXT. I had to Uninstalling the KleekBot USB Driver via Device Manager fixed the issue.

I've sent them a note to tell them to fix the issue for others who undoubtedly will have the same issue...

And thanks for your efforts.

Matt,

Thank you for the info. I used it and found a dozen or so NXT devices that I removed. What is the impact of having all these hidden devices out there?
