It's been a couple months I think, but it's still worth pinning IMO (Xander).

??? Are you sure it's legal? Isn't it illegal? Lego posted it only if you already own the software and need a replacement. It states that the question someone asked was "How can I obtain a replacement for the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 software for set 8547?" So, it must be illegal, or is it?

The download must be legal. However you got a point, you might not be allowed to install and/or use the software without a proper license. Depends on what it says in the license terms, does anyone know?

It doesn't say on the page that is a restricted download. If you're worried, I would suggest calling your lawyers and asking him to go through the EULA. Otherwise just download and install it and hope the NSA doesn't bust through the door.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Do they still do that?

I wonder why they don't make you provide verification? I mean, anyone could download that file and they don't specifically say that it's copywrite infringement if you download it and don't have a previous version installed or are simply replacing it because you lost your backup disk. If they are providing a free download, I guess it's open to the public.

The only reason they make the software, is so you can use the hardware. If you don't buy the MINDSTORMS hardware, the software is not much use.
