Speeding up Forums

Post by muntoo »

Wooooooooooooooosssssssssshhhhhhhhh.... EEEEHHHH.... BAM!
Ahem. Sorry.

These forums seem to be a bit slow... I expected more from sourceforge. Is there anyway to speed them up? The buttons take a while to load. And there's no "quick edit" option like NXTasy, so my editing is slower.

Maybe that's just because I'm using IE6 on this computer. (I'd use Chrome if I could...)

I'm using the latest and greatest FF version and it's slow for me as well so I don't think the browser has that much to do with it. I can load three "normal" pages in the time it takes MiBo to load one page. Somebody did say something (wow, isn't that specific) about the effect the SourceForge banner had on loading speed. However, I haven't checked out that fix.

The forums seem pretty snappy to me but I am using the latest version of Chrome. I just tried it with IE8 in http mode (not logged in) and it seemed even faster there. I've not done any kind of timing but my impression is the pages load way faster than they did on the old site.

It does take longer to post or edit a post since we don't have the same "quick" option that the IPB forums had, but I'm pretty happy with the overall speed - so far, at least.

I am also happy/content with the speed. I never used that "quick" stuff anyhow. I think that this is at least a lot more stable than nxtasy was for sure.

After some more testing I found out that it is probably FireFox's fault. I can get MiBo pages to load in about 4 seconds in IE8; the same pages take about 12-13 seconds to load in FF. Not sure what FF is doing... Maybe I should upgrade to Chrome :) . I'm not to worried about the speed, just wondering what's going on.

Loads at about 4-5 seconds in both IE9b, Chrome6 and FF3.6 for me. All my browser installs have a very minimalistic plugin presence, however.. Try loading FireFox without plugins and see if that helps your speed out. If it does, try disabling plugins one-by-one to see if you can find who the culprit is.

Have a nice day,

EDIT: performance is also the same in Chrome7b

Well, I started up FF in Safe Mode and tried loading some MiBo pages. If anything, the pages loaded slower. I really am stumped as to whats going on. But, I can live with it and I have been thinking of getting Chrome installed. I'm sure if I start using it instead page load times will improve considerably. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I use Chrome, and it is really good. Probably about 5 seconds, but I haven't timed it.
