Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
Enchanting version 0.0.4 is now out!
Take a look at the demonstration video here:
The enchanting site has details on where to download the program, how to set it up, and how to help out, should you be interested.
Cheers,

hi,
do you have to run the robot always in an online mode (attached to a cable to the PC) or does it also work offline (autonomous)?

Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
Currently you always need the cable attached to upload the program with the green flag button. (Advanced users can export the code, and manually compile and upload it over bluetooth using the leJOS tools). Once it is uploaded, you can remove the cable and run the program named "Enchanting.java" on your NXT, thus allowing you to operate the robot in a fully autonomous manner.
(As a matter of fact, my first take of the video had me removing the cable, but I needed to shorten the video to make it comfortably fit within Youtube's ten-minute allotment.)
Hope that answers your question.

Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
yes of course, thank you for your clarification!
(I was just wondering why you keep the USB wire plugged even if the line follower is running. Those pictures let me falsly assume that you always have to keep it plugged that way.)

Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
Hmm... Most likely that means there are several other people wondering if the USB cable always needs to be attached.
I suppose I'll have to make that more clear in future videos.

Sad. Well, i still get errors. I am very familiar with Scratch, the program you "templated".Java Exception:
Class: 78
Method: 482
PC: 33318

Hmm.... Can you e-mail me your file or export an image of your code and attach it here?
You are using LeJOS v0.85, are you not?

Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
Hmm... It appears my luck is different.
I ran the program as-is for five minutes and always got "Try Again!". I finally removed the wait loop and shortened the time the try again note plays, and pretty quickly got "Wow!" answers, too. Did the error message come up right away for you?
I don't see anything wrong with the code. It certainly appears to be correct. Which of course leaves me grasping at straws. Possibly reflashing the LeJOS firmware on your NXT would make a difference, but it does unlikely.
Would anyone else try recreating dudmaster's program and reporting back?
Thanks,
Clinton

Re: Alternative graphical programming environment -- Enchanting
I'm not worried about the program, it always gives me the error right off.
