Avatar/Signature Size Limitations

Post by sidneys1 »

Just wanted to note the size limitations on Avatars and images within the signature are abnormally small. 90x90 pixels is small for an Avatar, and completely useless for a signature. A better size for avatars would be along the lines of perhaps 100x120 and for signatures 500x150. Is there any chance that this could be modified, or is the Mindboards administration against graphical signatures and larger (or at least, better aspect ratio) for Avatars?

I think the site administration made good choices when they set limitations on the size of avatars and signatures. Why do you need to have a large signature? What value would it add to your post?

Well, as one of the top posters on the now non-existent NXTasy.org, my posts were most readily recognized by my distinctive signature. Think of it almost as branding. I'd be more than willing to keep it small, under 90 pixels high if need be, but to fit any amount of text on there it needs to be wider. That is all.

Have a nice day,

EDIT: Because, as-is, this is the best I am allowed as far as signatures go: Image

EDIT 2: Also, because on a high-DPI screen such as mine, you have to squint to read the text in that image I just posted.

Your avatar looks nice at this size :)

Actually, I found animated signatures like some people used on NXTasy quite annoying. I always had to press ESC to stop animations.

Sidney,

The avatar size is just fine, we're not going to set it so people can have one that is bigger than the couple of lines of text they put in a post. The same applies to the signature. We disabled links in the signatures for this specific reason. A max of 4 lines for signatures applies to everyone.

Well, alrighty. I'll have to make do with what I have, then. In that case, is it too much to ask for text aligning BBcodes? [left] [center] [right], etc?

Sidney,

I would have to dig around and see how to add custom bbcode stuff. However, don't forget that these forums are hosted, so we don't have the ability to do things like add mods or themes and things. I did see a tab for adding bbcodes somewhere while I was perusing the configuration stuff a few days ago.

I agree with "doc" here as there were a few signatures over at NXTasy that had to 'ave been at least 150x600 pixels. Now I won't mention any names but it bugged me to no end (until I installed Ad-Block plus... he-he-he). You can still make quite recognizable signatures with word art!
