"BoM" is short for "Bill of Materials". He means the part assortment in it is good :P

just out of interest, I tried if it's possible to pre-order at the U.S. education site as inxt-Generation suggested, but failed - pre-order not possible, even not if I possibly specified a U.S. shipping address.

So how is it possible for a private customer to pre-order any kind of EV3 set (Home, EDU, EDU base set) at a LEGO shop or LEGO EDU shop in the United States ?

Did you see this: http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/product ... e_set/2578

There hasn't been an official shipping date of the retail set, but you can bet it'll probably be Toys 'R Us and Amazon that will have them first.

thank you for your reply!
That's indeed interesting because Lego Germany claimed and pretended that there is no preorder possible, neither in Germany, nor in Europe, and even not in the U.S.A.

awsome, but thanks a lot!

Was this LEGO Education Germany or LEGO Germany? There's a massive difference and they're actually two completely separate entities.

two completely separate entities?

That's really new to me and no one ever told me (or anyone I asked or contacted) - not even "Lego Germany" itself when I asked them about the Education sets.
They not even adviced me to contact a so-called Lego Education company, and on the German Education Website they don't give any information about pre-order.
But everywhere you see the identical red Lego logo.

Well, this internal company organization is (expressed cautiously) a little weird and hard to see through.

But now it's more clear why Lego Germany doesn't know anything about the EDU base set, about EDU set pre order, and the possibilities one has at the Lego (education) U.S. web shop.

thanks for the information!

They do know about each-other, but they're not best friends :) The retail side wants to sell you a retail set and the education side wants to sell you an education box.

Oh, the stories I could tell!

both have "Lego" in their logo, sell the same Mindstorms bricks, and both are not the best friends?
What a stupidity!
Anyway, now I got an email from Lego Germany that both in Europe and in the U.S. the EDU sets may only be purchased by schools and other educational institutions, not by private customers.

Is that true?

That would top the stupidity.

That seems odd. I have bought things from the US EDU site. Perhaps you just can't pre-order unless you are a school?

I've ordered stuff from Edu before. Not pre-ordered, though. And with all the parts I have to buy for my current project, I probably won't have enough money to order an EV3 in the pre-order period, so I can't try.
