Install NXT 1.0 together with NXT 2.0 ?

Post by knoerifast »

I already have an NXT 2.0 installation.
Now I bought a second hand NXT 1.0 set and I tried to install the 1.0 software but it doesn't install because it detects a higher version.

Is there a way to install version 1.0 and 2.0 side by side so that I can program both NXT sets on the same computer ?

Thanks

You don't have to use the 1.0 software. The 2.0 software is backwards compatible. But I would suggest you upgrade the firmware on the brick from the 1.0 set.

I have an NXT 1.0 and a 2.0. I can program them at the same computer without any problems, with the same firmware versions on both (in RobotC though, I'm not sure about NXT-G).

I wouldn't bother with the 1.0 software unless it's the building instructions you're after. In that case you can do the following:
  1. Install 1.0 software. When it is done, you can rename the folder it installed to ("LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT") folder to something like "LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 1.0".
  2. Install 2.0 software.
  3. ...
  4. Profit!
Now you have both! :)

Wouldn't be easier to just get them from the LEGO website?

I installed both versions too, but with a small modification to the software...

First I installed NXT1.0 version, and renamed the "LEGO Software\LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT\engine\EditorVIs\Academy Content" folder that holds the old models. Then install NXT2.0 version over the previous version. You now have both models on your computer. The intro screen is basic HTML code, so now you can modify it, and add a link to the old version.

I tried to attach some pictures of my modification, but it doesn't seem to work, so I uploaded the pictures to my server.

Here are the link :

If you want something similar, just send me an email, and I'll help you with the details.
