About url redirection

Post by schodet »

The current redirection includes the sourceforge page in a frame. This cause several problems:
  • with MSIE, requiring a work around "open in new tab"
  • the url can not be copied easily
  • when pressing "refresh", I am sometime redirected to the mindboard main page (to refresh the new post page for example)
Do we really need to hide the sourceforge url?

What I would recommend if the current setup is particularly bothersome would be using http://forums.mindboards.net/ as your primary means of accessing the forums. With nxtasy I would never go to www.nxtasy.org and then click through to the forums. I would always go directly to forums.nxtasy.org. With the mindboards site you can do the same. If you go directly to forums.mindboards.net it will not mask the redirection to sourceforge. You should see the http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/mindboards/ URL in your browser's address bar after navigating to http://forums.mindboards.net/. The problems with refreshing, etc... should go away.

Hi John,
I seem to have problems accessing the mindboards.net domain, from some ISPs. I can reach the site at my office, but at home where I'm using a different ISP, it will always timeout.
I can reach the mindboards.sf.net URL, but at the homepage it uses forums.mindboards.net to link to the forums. Any idea why the domain name is having problems?

There is definitely some issue with the URL redirection performed by mindboards.net. I can't access http://www.mindboards.net or https://forums.mindboards.net from my home ISP. I'll keep getting "The server at forums.mindboards.net is taking too long to respond", whereas if I did the same thing from my office, there is no problem.

I verified it by typing the http://mindboards.sf.net and https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/mindboards/ URLs in manually at home, and it works fine (that is how I'm posting this).

I wonder if there is some sort of "IP blacklist" that filters out requests from my home ISP range.
It would be good if the Sourceforge Homepage can provide an alternative URL to reach the forums (without the redirection?). Otherwise other people may be stumped on how to get to the forums.

Can you think of a reason that godaddy.com would have your ISP blacklisted? Regardless, it probably would be good to have a link on the project page that does not require the redirect.

I'm not familiar with godaddy's filtering policy, but IP Blacklisting happens from time to time if there is a lot of botnet/spam activities coming from a particular network address range.

However, the problem with many blacklists is that they often don't update it even if the problem has been resolved. e.g., network address reassignment to a new owner belonging to a blacklisted address range.
